la fin proche

i'm at the last stretch of slow through eden: the living room tour. i realize it'll only be a rough cut done this sunday, hopefully, and that it still has to be watched by other cast members and minor adjustments and tweaks will be made in the next week. but the finality of this project marks the end of hundreds and hundreds of hours of work. i've never worked so hard and long on a project.

it's a feature length documentary. feature length. those words are scary. and sure i could have just made something repetitive in order to satisfy a long length of time. but my professors were right. my production teacher was right. my screenwriting teacher was right. feature length is a long fucking time, and it's difficult to pull off something like this...especially when you're more or less alone in the process.

i know it's really rough around the edges. i'm insanely critical of this, as i am with anything i do. but there's a degree of pride and satisfaction that i have never felt before. i interviewed dozens of people and followed an intimate cast for months, then after it was all over i marched along by myself to tell a story. it may not be shaping to be the story any of us intended, least of all me, but i am proud of it.

though there is still a vast amount of work to be done (finish the ending, discuss it with the cast/designers, smooth out the rough edges, process the legal rights of all participants and music involved), to me it marks this awkward transition from boy-with-a-camera to aspiring filmmaker. itll mark the end of irvine, of college, and even america, to pursue film in paris.

i can't wait for it to be done, i can't wait to awkwardly show everyone, and i can't wait to see where it takes me.
