i think there comes a point in writing when you just have to trust yourself and what you believe in. it's great to get as much feedback as you possibly can as a sort of test audience...to see what works and what doesn't work. it's great to be given doubt, to be challenged, because then you strengthen your own beliefs and work.
but still...there's something strange about my script. it just feels impossible. incomplete. flawed. i was warned not to make it too autobiographical, but i didn't heed that warning. nothing seems to be right. discussions about the script's faults mimic and mirror discussions within the diegesis. characters talk about what the audience wants, and yet i feel as if i'm still not giving it to them. the script, essentially, is my own internal monologue, and i can't limit it to 5 minutes, and i sure as hell can't appeal to everyone. it's getting to me, it really is. when one says "it needs more humanity," what the fuck does that actually entail?
is my writing pretentious if i'm actually writing honestly? from my heart? from my relentless, cold blooded heart?
