i spent the past couple of days i have watched all my movies and discussed them with friends. there's not one movie i am not proud of, but i still feel apprehensive about them. every one of them, to me, just seems unfinished and sloppy. most of the time, if they are deemed good or acceptable by others, it is within a certain context. it was made in 24 hours. it was made in 48 hours. the other movies made at the same time were horrible, so mine was better by comparison.
i don't want that. i want a short film i create to be valid, legitimate and decent within it's own standards. i want it to be a self-contained short capable of earning respect without a context of other movies, without knowledge of who made it. i get a lot of default admiration from friends, peers and professors...like i'm 5 years old, i just drew a stick figure of my family, and it should be hung on the refrigerator. but it's only been hung once on the fridge.
i realize im graduating soon, and i would like to go out with a bang. i have a feature length documentary i'm working on, and 2 short films. one for fun, one to really test my craft. i've never done something incredibly serious before, and i'm hoping it'll be fine.
it'll seriously be all directing/acting, two things i'm incredibly unsure about. we'll see.
